Strategies: Behavioral and Psychological Factors

We expect that you will experience difficulties at certain times.  No one can expect perfection.  We have no desire to judge your behavior but would rather help you change it when it harms you. Our wish is to help you build a more positive perception of yourself and your ability to deal with difficult situations.  It is in this spirit that our meetings will be structured in order to:

  • Identify your motivations and make choices synchronized with your health goals;
  • Change your perception of dieting (benefits outweigh nuisances; pleasures outweigh feelings of deprivation);
  • Find alternate rewards and relaxation techniques;
  • Use ways to recognize trigger events and emotions and their role in dictating your food choices;
  • Provide means to deal with a sensation of ‘loss of control’. Our tools, suggested reading and cognitive therapy will allow you “not to lose your grip” on your food choices;
  • Identify motivation blocks;
  • Integrate new habits and behaviors into your everyday life;
  • Set realistic objectives and measure progress.

We can also keep in touch with you, at your request, if long lapses occur between your clinic visits.
